Mt. Whitney From Cottonwood Lakes
Near camp the view looking back the way we came was worth seeing. The canyon opening on the left is where the Old Army Pass trail and the high lake is. Mt. Langley is the high point on the skyline.
The Skinny Lake
Mt. Whitney Trip from Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead. June 2000.
Towards the end of the lake the area opened up in lawn and tree shaded beauty. Right away we found a large flat and friendly campsite which we immediately adopted as our own. Nearby the lake became a pond and threaded channel outlet that cascaded into a small round lake nearby. The small round lake near our camp. Cirque Peak is out there on the skyline.
The whole place looked like a planned garden planted with picturesque trees, lawns, cliffs, flowers and rocks, all surrounded with beautiful mountains. I felt like we were staying at a country club, not that I have ever stayed at one. I have camped in many beautiful places in the Sierra, and that place ranks among the very best.
